Abstract
The British government implemented numerous laws in various provinces to exploit the Indian agricultural sector. Through these laws, Indian cultivators, farmers, and others were either left at the mercy of the landlords or directly exploited by the government itself. The government was exploiting Indian farmers through systems like Ryotwari, Mahalwari, and Permanent Settlement, which were implemented in different parts of the country. All the rules implemented by the government were designed from the perspective of its own security and prosperity. The tenancy legislation can be considered as one link in this chain of such laws.
